  • Sabrina was home from school on Friday, so we decided to live it up!!! Yesterday, we had a "Friend Party" at our house. It was a perfect day for an inside party--lots of gloomy rain outside! We made potato soup, cheese bread, and pepperoni rolls.
  • The kiddies snacked on animal crackers, cereal necklaces (made on our fancy smanshy table--Darcy's new Diaper box!!!) "little people" trail mix (gold fish, raisins, m and m's, chex mix, pretzels...), and any other unhealthy treat you could think of (oh, yeah, and Toll House Pie for the Big People, very healthy... ;) ! The kids finished the day off by watching Thumbelina and Charlie and Lola and twirling in the living room singing, "Ring around the Rosies."
  • We had a good day.

Tennessee Weather

  • Monday...
  • Clear Skies, easterly winds, a beautiful day!
  • Temperatures in the mid 60's.
  • Tuesday...
  • Slightly cloudy, mild temperatures,
  • Storms expected late afternoon.
  • Storms continuing through the night,
  • Tapering off into a slight drizzle by early morning.
  • Chance of showers--60%.
  • Temperatures in the low to mid 40's throughout the day.
  • Wednesday...
  • Morning hours will bring freezing rain.
  • Hazardous road conditions, continuing into the late morning.
  • Gradually rain will change into snow. Accumulation 2-3."
  • Footnote: Milk and bread will not be found on any grocery shelf,
  • and every idiot will be out driving country roads covered in ice,
  • and some will discover, after a steep $75 tow charge,
  • it is, indeed,
  • "Purty slick out there!"
  • So, considering the unpredictable weather
  • in "The Valley,"
  • the biggest decision
  • (outside of "When are you getting milk and bread?")
  • is, undoubtedly,
  • "What to wear?"
  • "What to wear?"
  • "What to wear..."

Book Knowledge

  • from 2008
  • I learned something new about my local library today!!!
  • I am often frustrated as I search for books (especially with a busy six year old and an animated 2 year old in tow).
  • My frustration: I want to find the perfect children's book for a theme or season.
  • So off I went to the library today, hoping for a solution other than trial and error and the dreaded Dewey Decimal System...
  • The librarian told me to go to the library internet site
  • Click advanced search.
  • Select the option to search by keyword or phrase (without pulling non-related, adult/reference titles).
  • And finally...
  • Go to location.
  • Select options beginning with "e" as the search destination ("e" meaning easy readers--this can contain fiction and nonfiction books)(the search destination is the physical location of the children's book section (at your local library)).
  • All locations listed in the advanced search (for our library system) beginning with "e" are child related books/illustrated books.
  • From there, you can click bookmark or hold the books you select . It will pull only theme related books only from the children's section.
  • Wow!
  • This preschool teacher is happy!
  • I didn't know that, did you?
  • =) Pretty nifty.
  • Things I have learned since this post...
  • My librarian said that many library systems often use the same or very similar software, so this is a common search engine for all online, public library systems.
  • Other searches you might like using the online, advanced search by location...
  • J--for nonfiction, some easy readers, and junior books
  • Board books--chunky nursery books for toddlers
